I finished the back of the kimono sweater. Here it is on my mannequin.
Colors are fairly accurate above, although the red is a bit more maroon IRL. The wrinkles are the result of having been wadded up in my knitting bag for a year. They should all come out in the blocking. Or the wash -- this is Louet Gems superwash merino worsted (Topaz? Opal? I forget).
The purple yarn is from two different dyelots, so I am alternating them. If you look closely below you can discern the difference.
The effect is rather dizzying in person, but only if you are very close. Mostly it looks fine.
The back is now hibernating on my laundry/sewing table, resting atop Lucy the Dog's deer season safety sweater and a pile o' bibs.
I planned to knit the two front simultaneously, and that worked fine for maroon segments but not for the purple. The logistics of knitting from four balls of yarn -- one each of the two dyelots for each side -- was far too much hassle. It was, in fact, a nightmare. Knitting became something I didn't look forward to, and that spelled d-e-a-t-h for ever finishing the sweater.
Happily I had just gotten a second set of US#7 points for my Options needles, so instead I am knitting the two fronts concurrently, each on its own circular needle. A few inches on the left, a few inches on the right, rinse and repeat. That is working much better.
Right about this point, which occurred earlier this week, I suddenly got involved in three charity knitting projects. Those will occupy me for a few weeks, then (fingers and toes crossed!) I will get back to this. And finish it before the snow melts.

It's good to have goals.

Wow, that really is a dramatic difference in dye lots.

I can't wait to see the finished sweater!

It look so soft and squishy! I like the subtle variegation of the purple.

I can see the difference in the two purples, but because you were smart enough to alternate them, it looks like it's supposed to be that way--like a softly variegated yarn.

I think the variegation looks deliberate, too. I'm lazy and don't like knitting with more than one ball of yarn, so I often end up with "unique" color variations in my knitting. Mostly I don't mind, and no one has ever noticed.
