Premiering April 1 on a cable network near you.
While Andrew was home for Christmas we watched Season 1 on his laptop. Excellent.
I had clued him in on these books a couple years ago, and he had found somewhere on the web where he could download a pdf of the text. He put them on his iPod Touch and read whenever he had a minute or two to waste -- waiting for an elevator, in the bathroom, wherever.
Last year when A Dance with Dragons, Book 5 of the series, came out I emailed him to let him know. He replied that he already had an autographed copy*, acquired when he went to hear George R.R. Martin speak. Rotten kid, taking advantage of all NYC has to offer.
* "[He'd] already got one, you know." Name that reference.
And I'm sure it's verrrrrry nice.
The reference? Monty Python, of course!

Ah! Finally found the reference. And now I'll be singing under my breath "When danger reared his ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled..."
Topic. Er. Game of Thrones. I've got to read/see that one of these days.

John Cleese, the French Taunter, Act I scene ii line 73, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I could have Shakespeare in my head, like my mother; but no. Monty Python, Tom Lehrer, Schoolhouse Rock. Kids these days!

Didn't catch the reference. Don't know the books. Would never have heard of the series. ... /sigh I gotta get out more.

Got the reference*. Read the books. (Well, I'm currently about halfway through Dance...) Haven't seen the series, though it's been recommended to me. (Drat that no TV thing.)
*On a long-ago computer, I had the "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" taunt as the sound for Windows closing. Always gave me a giggle, though Madman got a little tired of it...

Ah yes! Monty Python and the Holy Grail! I think I've seen that movie at least a dozen times. In my opinion, it's their best movie. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that I was in the Society of Creative Anachronism when the movie came out. It was all the rage among that set.
