Photo taken by a friend from his living room... without benefit of zoom. Said friend lives about 5 miles away from me; that's where Matthew and I were on New Year's day. That cat waiting for his turn at the feeder? His name is Pete and he weighs 23 pounds. Hard to say which is more amazing, the bear on the deck or the size of the cat.
Thanks to Kris and Dave for sharing their photo.
I think I would faint before I could get to the camera. Holy crap!

...definitely the bear on the deck.

Is that one of those feeders that is designed to fling a squirrel off if it gets on? I'm betting the owner thinks that the squirrel problem is pretty minor now...
As for the cat, I am stunned that it is staying there with a bear that close.

And I thought my cats were big!
This is why I am a little scared to live in the woods - why are there no photo's of Moose stealing seeds on decks?? WHY do they always have to be bears?

The cat's probably wondering why the bear is messing with his bait...

There's got to be a LOLcats caption in there somewhere.

I think cats figure that once it's in the house, it must be a friend. I don't know why.

Whoa! Shouldn't that bear be hibernating?

When the trees are green here in the upper Midwest, the bears are out and about. That photo was taken last June :-)

The cat looks like it's sizing up the bear - probably figured the bear was demeaning itself eating birdseed, and not being served the meal by staff the way cats are...
