This one is for Erika and Yarnhog.
You may not be familiar with Michael Perry. He is a local author from New Auburn, Wisconsin (population 485) now living on a farm in the Chippewas Valley near Eau Claire, Wisconsin. His first book was Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time, which came out in 2002 when I was working part-time at our local library. That book was never on the shelf; it was always being requested by someone somewhere in n.w Wisconsin. Eventually I decided I needed to read it and found, much to my happy surprise, that Mr. Perry is a thoughtful writer. I recommend all his books. Read 'em in order and follow his life.
I was in a book club that read Population 485 and we enjoyed it very much...I'll have to put his other books on my list - so nice to meet the author!

Thanks for that! Always a favorite, I love Michael Perry and am happy to hear him speak/read whenever I can!

That's pretty great! I really liked Population 485, but I read it so long ago, I feel like I should re-read it now that I have moved from Seattle to a town with only 800 residents.
I have tried hypnotizing my chickens many times, to no avail. Maybe I'll give it another try!

Oh fun! I loved Population 485! (Could you have first told me about it? Back in 2003.) I'll look up the rest (in order!)

Fine... change my reading list (again).
I've ordered both Population 485 and Truck from my local library. (here's to libraries!! -- second only to independent book sellers)
