Lots of money.
Tons of money.
Boatloads of money.
But the money is not for me. It is for my tiny library's building fund. This little village of 917 souls has one of the best -- and busiest! -- libraries on the planet, especially for a village this size, but it lacks a number of things:
- Enough space for a print collection of the size recommended for its service area (!)
- A roof that doesn't leak
- A basement that doesn't flood
- Dedicated parking space for patrons
- Meeting room(s)
- Privacy for public access computer users
- Working space for more than one staff member at a time
The fund-raising committee has already completed Phase I of the project, wherein they purchased a building -- a centrally located but vacant supermarket that had been empty for several years -- and hired an architectural firm to do preliminary plans. There were a few bumps along the way, like prehistoric underground fuel tanks that had to be removed, but the building purchase was final earlier this year.
Now, as much as I would like to, I cannot afford the cost to remodel that building into the new library all by myself.
I am asking you, my bloggy pals, to help by pledging for me here. (ETA: link fixed, 12/30/13, 4:34pm CST)
(Put in the notes that you are pledging for me, Kathryn Kienholz.)
Deadline for pledges is Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Besides being a fund raiser for one of my favorite causes, this looks like it will be fun to do. Way more fun than the Polar Plunge into an area lake last February :-)
