Knitting for Peace author Betty Christiansen is coming my local library! I think I've only read one review of the book, and it wasn't overly favorable, something like there was enough here for a good article but not really enough for a book. However, as a knitter and a library supporter I plan to be there in my Dulaan shirt :-)

When I was trying to find a screen capture utility for Macs, I happened upon this at the Apple site. It's a collection of all the Mac vs. PC ads. If you watch TV at all you have probably seen at least some of them. Our TV reception was so horrible that I hardly ever watch it, so most of these were new to me. imho, this is the best, i.e., most entertaining and creative, ad campaign ever. And I thought that long before I got a Mac.

It's not really prison if they let you bring your iPod.

Here's a blog post, non-knitting, that resounded with me. MetroDad talks about what he likes about America. Go read it, I'll wait.
Done? Okay, here's what I commented:
This is exactly the same thing as the fact that I started wearing an American flag pin on my jean jacket. Right next to my Green Party button. It pisses me off that the right wing seems to have claimed total and exclusive right to patriotism, and that anyone who disagrees with any of their views is clearly Not A True American. We all love our country; it's just that some of us are able to do that with our eyes open, instead of being blinded by red, white, and blue glasses.
Okay, I promised this wouldn't morph into a political blog. Enough already.

This is the remains of the pickup truck from which my friend Jeff was extracted last week after a head-on collision on the stretch of highway he travels every day after school. He's a reading specialist in the local school district. The collision was caused by a teenage driver who essentially just didn't have enough experience to handle the traffic situation she suddenly found herself in. She veered into the oncoming lane instead of the ditch to avoid the cars ahead of her. Oops. Jeff suffered bumps and bruises and a concussion but is okay, thank FSM. His wife Nancy is the one who inspired me to try knitting socks; she went with me and another friend to see La Harlot last fall. The other car's driver and passenger had more severe injuries but are expected to recover. Yikes. Matthew told us when he got home from school that day about having to detour around a major accident Hwy. 46. A few minutes earlier or later and it could have been him.

I'm nearly done with the first Koigu sock. Still loving the yarn and the colors.
Aw, that is a great post. When I read the same sentiments in an e-mail from my right-wing relatives I harumph and grump and delete the sucker with much muttering. It has the same effect on me as "America: Love It or Leave It" bumper stickers used to in the 70s. (Those are NOT the only choices, and they are not mutually exclusive. Or something.) But when a world-traveling Korean-American says it -- and offers personal anecdotal evidence -- I can believe it and support it.
