I have a photo collection entitled The Tigers of Polk County. After three years of collecting, this will be the third item. Nope, not too many tigers 'round these parts; most of 'em been scared off by the skeeters and high property taxes.

Anise hyssop is one of my favorite herb/flowers. It is easy to grow, it comes back reliably year after year, it smells good, and bees love it. This clump, though? The size of a refrigerator. Wowza.
Someone enjoys embroidery far more than I do.

A few years ago, in about 2004 or 2005, Polk County had more meth labs than any other county in the state. Maybe in the country. We are rural, isolated, low income, but only about an hour from a major metropolitan area. The county board came up with a plan, which seemed to consist mostly of Yellow Signs Everywhere, to get rid of them. The meth labs appear to have migrated farther north and east, into somewhat more remote areas. Guess it worked. Nothing scares away a meth cooker faster than A Yellow Sign.
