An oldie but a goodie.

I polled the family -- Smokey, Younger Son, and Elder Son -- as to their choices for Thanksgiving dinner.
- Roast turkey with the traditional sides -- stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie.
- Roast beef in the crock pot, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted root vegies, maybe a tossed salad, pumpkin pie.
Smokey and Younger Son voted for #2 and Elder Son hasn't replied to the email yet, so there will be no turkey at our house on Thursday. I am pleased -- option #2 is a lot less work/stress. Elder Son will be happy as long as there is both gravy and pumpkin pie.

Back in the day I used to do the entire Thanksgiving cooking deal for our tiny family of four, no extended family. (No one lives within 400 miles of us.) Every year I wore myself out, until in 1994 I had a revelation: there must be an easier way to do this. My new plan worked so well that I wrote it down for future reference and followed it for a number of years. Remember, this was when we lived in Minneapolis and came here to the lake for the 4-day weekend. Smokey always worked a day shift on Thursday (double or triple time, a no-brainer) and drove up after that, hence the evening timing for the feast.
Please note the important activity @ 9:01 a.m.
(I also used to address the Christmas card on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Put the kids to bed, bake the pumpkin pie if it wasn't already made, put on some good music, address the cards.)
